Tile FAQ

What is the actual finished size of your tiles?
Our actual finished tile dimensions vary due to the handmade nature of our work. Generally speaking our tiles are designed for installation with 1/8” – ¼” grout lines and thus a nominally sized 4”x4” tile actually measures 3 ¾” x 3 ¾”. Similarly a 6”x6” tile will measure 5 ¾” x 5 ¾”. Tiles are approximately ½” thick.

What is the process of developing a custom or commemorative tile?
We have a step-by-step process to develop a custom or commemorative tile – starting with a customer’s design ideas. Please contact us to discuss the process.

Is there variation in color or design?
Our tiles are individually hand made and thus small variations in design will occur. Minor variations in size, color and texture may exist in our tiles. This is the nature of handmade tile.

How much should I order?
We recommend ordering 10-20% additional. For example, if your project requires 30 square feet of tile we recommend you order a minimum of 33 square feet.

Where can I buy your tiles?
Our tiles are available through select tile installers and galleries. Please see this link for a list of our galleries.

Are your tiles suitable for the outdoors?
Our decorative tiles are made of American stoneware and are generally suitable for display or installation out of doors when installed properly. Our tiles generally do not require sealing, however we recommend contacting a professional installer for outdoor applications beyond display.

Suitable for Wet Installation
Our tiles are suitable for wet installations. We recommend contacting a professional installer.

Do you offer plain tiles?
We do offer field (plain tiles) also. Typically field tiles are created in either a standard (smooth) or tumbled (rough) finish. Field tiles are an affordable way to enhance the design of your project. Please contact us for field tile prices and availability.

If I place a custom order, what is the lead time I should expect?
Custom tile projects and commemoratives usually require 8-10 weeks to delivery. Small orders can often be developed in less time but we will provide an estimate at the time of order.

Can your tiles be hung?
Unless instructed otherwise, our tiles are design with a hook on the back allowing them to be hung or framed.

Is a deposit required for a custom tile order?
We will first develop a prototype of your custom tile following a customary setup fee. If approved, we will require a 50% deposit to complete production.
